We congratulate Andy Burnham on becoming the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The victims and their families impacted by terrorist violence are very pleased to have previously met him. It was very kind of Andy, despite his very busy schedule, to have met with victims and their families impacted by terrorist violence.
We intend to write to him as a consequence of the appalling lack of progress concerning the UK victims of Libyan/IRA terrorism.Jonathan Ganesh said “I feel Andy will make an outstanding Prime Minister due to his genuine commitment to social justice. Victims and their families impacted by the Troubles in mainland UK originating from Northern Ireland meet with the ICRIR
Today, (Thurs 9th July 2026) the victims and their families felt pleased to attend meeting with the ICRIR (Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery) in London.
We also felt pleased that we had been given to opportunity to discuss these legacy matters directly with the Deputy Commissioner Keith Surtess and Senior Investigator Gareth Rees from the ICRIR.
Jonathan Ganesh said “I feel this meeting has been very productive. I’m pleased the valuable work of the ICRIR has been explained to those within the UK that have been impacted by the Troubles originating from Northern Ireland”.

30th anniversary (9th Feb 2026) of the London Docklands bombing
Today marks the 30th anniversary (9th Feb 2026) of the London Docklands bombing, a day that forever changed the lives of many. As we reflect on this tragic event, we stood in solemn prayer to honour the lives that were cut short by acts of terrorism, both in the UK and around the world. We must never forget the pain and suffering endured by the survivors and the families of the victims.
As a consequence of the appalling act of terrorism, which marked the end of the IRA’s era, Inam Bashir, 29, and John Jeffries, 31, were killed. The bomb, packed with Semtex explosive supplied by colonel Muammar Gaddafi and his brutal regime, had been parked adjacent to Inam and John’s newspaper and confectionery kiosk (Newsstop2000) at South Quay DLR Station, London E14. The unimaginable force of the explosion obliterated the entire area, leaving many other innocent people severely injured. Due to the unimaginable force of the explosion, residents from the Barkantine Council Estate (London E14 8SJ) became homeless as a result of their homes being severely damaged.
Guests at the Service included survivors and the families of those killed in the South Quays terrorist attack and victims from other terror attacks such as 7/7, Harrods bomb, Baltic Exchange, Enniskillen and Aldwych, etc. Representatives from the Met Police (Met Police Commander Neerav Patel), London Fire Service (Deputy Assistant Commissioner Chris Jenner, London Fire Service), Transport for London, Docklands Light Railway, the Deputy Mayor for London Joanne McCarthney and the London Ambulance Service, including parliamentarians and other dignitaries.
During the Service, white doves had been released as a symbol of peace and to symbolise our desire to end all terrorist violence throughout the world. We also laid floral tributes at the scene of the atrocity. Also 55 special commemorative dove pins were presented to all the victims who attended The service had been held on at South Quay DLR Station, Marsh Wall, London E14 9SH at 12pm
President Jonathan Ganesh said:
“Firstly, on behalf of all the victims and their families affected by the tragedy at London Docklands, we stand together to express our heartfelt and enduring gratitude. To the Metropolitan Police, the London Fire Service, NHS Royal London Hospital, and the Docklands Light Railway—you have shown extraordinary courage, unwavering professionalism, and selfless dedication. Because of your actions, countless lives were saved. Mere words cannot express the depth of our thanks.
Many of you will remember Inam and John as the friendly faces behind the newspaper kiosk beside South Quay Station. They were well known, well liked, and truly loved within this community. They were ordinary young men living ordinary lives — taken from us in an extraordinary and horrific act of violence. I believe they would be deeply moved to see us gathered here today. As I look around, I see people of every colour, every faith, and every political belief standing side by side. Our presence sends a powerful message: we condemn terrorism in all its forms, wherever it occurs.
In times like these, we are reminded that more than pain, we need humanity. More than terror, we need love. More than hatred, we need compassion and understanding. Without these qualities, life would be unbearable. We cannot forget the acts of terror that have scarred our communities, both at home and across the world. Nor should we. But we must choose how we respond. The true measure of any society is not found in moments of ease, but in how we stand together in moments of fear.
Terrorism seeks to divide us — by faith, by race, by politics. Yet here we stand, united. Those who carried out these evil acts failed in their ultimate aim. They did not break our spirit. We live in uncertain times, but I firmly believe that those who have the courage to confront hatred with moral clarity will never stand alone. Across the world, there are countless people who share the same commitment to peace, liberty and human dignity.
Terrorism is a grave threat, but it is not stronger than our shared humanity. Today, as people of different faiths, backgrounds and beliefs, we stand together to affirm that freedom, democracy and compassion will prevail.”

Charlie Magri: World Flyweight Boxing Champion
We felt very saddened to recently learn from the media that former world flyweight boxing champion Charlie Magri has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Jonathan Ganesh said, “I have always had the deepest of affection for Charlie. I first met Charlie as an amateur Boxer (Broad Street Amateur Boxing Club) when I was about 9 years old, and also visited his amazing sports shop in Bethnal Green Road to purchase a pair of boxing boots. Sadly, I did not have the exact funds to purchase these pair of boots. However, Charlie still very kindly gave me the boots. Charlie, who has always had time for others throughout his life, has always been a truly decent, kind and genuine person”.

Sir William Shawcross: “A sincere and decent man”
As a consequence of the unprecedented lobbying by parliamentarians from across the political spectrum and the victims of Gaddafi/IRA terrorism, we are very pleased that today (20.10.2025), the UK government have finally released “The Shawcross Report” after many years.
“The Shawcross Report” had previously been classified due to national security. Therefore, we commend all the courageous parliamentarians, including the countless victims of Gaddafi/IRA terrorism from mainland UK, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, who had campaigned valiantly to ensure its release.
In 2006, under the “Libyan Claims Resolution Act”, in the US, Gaddafi paid substantial compensation to IRA victims who held US passports as a consequence of the Semtex explosives he eagerly supplied to the IRA that caused unimaginable suffering. Due to Gaddafi’s support for international terrorism, he also paid substantial compensation to French and German victims. The US, France and German governments fought for their victims, but sadly, our own UK government refused to support their own IRA victims.
The DVA (Docklands Victims Association) have met a number of the US IRA victims who had been left severely disabled and bereaved due to Gaddafi/IRA terrorism. As a result of the substantial compensation they received from Gaddafi, these IRA victims managed to access superior medical care and financial security.
In 2019, as a result of our valiant 20-year campaign to resolve this appalling injustice, the UK government finally appointed UK Libyan-IRA victim’s representative Sir William Shawcross to see if compensation could be obtained for the UK IRA victims.
After finally reading the declassified “Shawcross Report,” we were touched to learn that Sir William Shawcross courageously made several recommendations that could have resolved this matter. Therefore, we were left astonished and very saddened that the UK government refused to implement these excellent recommendations within “The Shawcross Report.”
President Jonathan Ganesh said, “I met Sir William in March 2020. He appeared to be very concerned to learn that some victims had taken their own lives due to a lack of adequate financial support and services. I can confirm that I have read The Shawcross Report, and it appears that Sir William, due to his humanity, tried desperately to help. He is a sincere and decent man”.
Susanne Dodd, whose father, Inspector Stephen Dodd of the Metropolitan Police, was killed in the Harrods IRA attack in 1983, said: “I want to thank all the kind MPs who got the William Shawcross Report released for the victims. These kind MPs have honoured my brave Dad and all those killed by Libyan/IRA terrorism. I’m heartbroken that the HMG did not follow Shawcross’s suggestion in the report. If HMG had accepted Shawcross’s findings I feel this would have prevented many victims from taking their own lives”

Meeting with Foreign Office Minister Hamish Falconer
The victims of Libya/IRA terrorism were very pleased today (Thursday, 10th July 2025) to meet with Foreign Office Minister Hamish Falconer to discuss our campaign to obtain compensation and equality from Libya. Under the “Libyan Claims Resolution Act 2006” in the US, Gaddafi paid substantial compensation to IRA victims who held US passports. Due to Gaddafi’s support for international terrorism, he also paid compensation to the French and German victims of terrorism. The US, France and German governments courageously fought for their victims, but sadly, our own UK government refused to help their victims.
During March 2019, following nearly 14 years of valiant campaigning by the victims and numerous courageous parliamentarians from all sides of the political spectrum, HMG publicly appointed a “Special Representative”, Mr William Shawcross, to initiate a report concerning compensation for all Libya/IRA victims. However, following the completion of the Shawcross report, it astonishingly becomes classified due to national security.
We would also like to thank Louise Haigh MP for accompanying and supporting the victims from the London Docklands, Baltic Exchange, Harrods and Aldwych during this very productive meeting with the Minister.
President Jonathan Ganesh said, “We felt very pleased that Minister Hamish Falconer had the courage and kindness to meet with a number of Libya/IRA victims from a number of attacks. During the past 20 years of our campaign to obtain equality, we have been very disappointed with a number of disingenuous UK governments. However, Minister Falconer appeared to be sincere, kind and genuine in his approach to moving this matter forward. He advised that he would try to secure the release of the Shawcross report, and he would be willing to discuss compensation directly with the Libyan authorities.

Victims of Libyan-Sponsored IRA terrorism Parliamentary Support Group met with victims and their families yesterday (Tuesday 1st July 2025) at Westminster. This historic event was chaired by Andrew Rosindell MP and had been attended by a number of Parliamentarians from across all sections of the political spectrum. This meeting had been held to discuss strategies which may finally resolve this long outstanding matter which devalued the life of every UK citizens. This was truly an historic meeting which brought all victims together from Gaddafi/IRA attacks across the UK. Many victims and their families attended and participated through video links. As a result of the video links victims and their families were afforded the opportunity to attend this meeting from outside the UK.
Sarah Butt, sister-in-law of Paul Butt, who was killed in the IRA attack Baltic Exchange 10th April 1993 attended Tuesday’s meeting. “We are now told the Shawcross report is classified, which begs the question what is in it and what can be more important than justice for the victims?” she asked. Speaking about Tuesday’s meeting, Jonathan Ganesh, chairman of the Docklands Victims Association, said: “This was an historic meeting with many others including victims attended and participated by video link from Northern Ireland and around the world. We have now collectively developed a strategy to move this matter forward with the support of both the House of Lords and the House of Commons.”

On 12 June, Jonathan Ganesh, a survivor of the Docklands Bombing received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Sunderland in London for his contributions to humanity.

Lord Owen formed the SDP in 1981 after leaving Labour due to his principled stand and has always courageously campaigned for our cherished NHS to ensure its survival. Lord Owen is a renowned author and has written several books including the outstanding “Hubris Syndrome”.
Jonathan said, “I first met Lord Owen when I was about 7 years old. My mother worked as an early morning cleaner at The Grapes Pub which was adjacent to his home in Limehouse, East London. She would take me to work with her before I went to school. I recall Lord Owen and his wife Deborah due to their politeness and kindness towards my mother. They always said good morning and were very courteous. It is sad that today many MPs lack Lord Owen’s courage, integrity and humanity.”

Jonathan Ganesh has been honoured for Covid volunteering.
Jonathan Ganesh said he was “very touched” to receive the Pandemic Response Medal in recognition of his efforts as an NHS responder.
“I’m accepting the award on behalf of all the DVA Covid-19 pandemic team especially my dear friend Wayne Gruba. “Wayne died after contracting Covid whilst working on the front line. Wayne and all those that died on the front line whilst helping others are truly the best of humanity.”
